Over
the past decade sports-related injuries in the pediatric population have been
on the rise. So much so that the American Academy of Orthopedic surgeons
consider it a "Silent Epidemic"2.
The reason for this epidemic is thought to be
the new 'catch them young' mentality that many sports programs and parents
alike have adopted2. Children are specializing
in a sport at a younger age. This often means year round competition and
children playing on multiple teams at once. This intensity in training and
competition can lead to overuse injuries and increases the likelihood of
sprains and strains occurring.
Our therapists at All About Kids Therapy Services, Inc. understand
not only about sports related injuries but about the growing child's physical, social, emotional and
cognitive developmental needs.
